About this tour

Skip the headlines, walk the march. One hour walking tour, 230 years of Parisian revolt.

Ever wondered what’s really going on, and why Parisians keep taking to the streets? Who are the peaceful marchers, and who are the people breaking windows? On this one-hour walking tour, a local guide answers those questions on the very route Paris marches take today, from Place de la Bastille to Place de la République, and shows you how today’s anger connects to more than 230 years of revolt.

Start where the Bastille fortress stood and hear how its fall in 1789 launched the French Revolution. Look down the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, the rebellious workers’ district that built barricades in 1830, 1848 and 1851. Stop at the site of an 1835 assassination attempt on King Louis-Philippe on Boulevard du Temple,  Walk Boulevard Beaumarchais, today’s main march corridor, then finish at Place de la République, the city’s main rallying point, from the 2015 vigils to Nuit Debout and today’s protests. Learn how a modern Paris demonstration works: who organizes it, who joins it, and who uses it to smash and burn.
